SPEECHLESS

I wanted to examine the essence of boxes. These structures contain…items, concepts, ideas, hopes, regrets, creatures, remains, communities. They also represent the pigeon holes into which things & ideas are categorized, such as personality types. Therefore, these humble forms may be ambassadors & vessels of profound significance. Following the deaths of both my parents & a brother, a great deal of packing items into boxes has taken place, as was the case when our family moved house on two occasions. I was often asked the whereabouts of particular items, to which my reply became, “It’s in a box somewhere.” Consequently our children have decided that my epitaph shall be SHE’S IN A BOX SOMEWHERE. Some of these works are part of a travelling exhibition THE KEEPER, MEMORIES OF A RURAL LIFE curated by Dr Sally Butler and Kerry Gillet.
